Improvisation… Composition? I know, these two words sound like polar opposites. But just because you’re not writing out idea ahead of time, doesn’t mean that you aren’t composing something. So today we’re diving in to how you can compose as you improvise to ensure that the music that comes out of your improvisation isn’t just a flurry of random notes. A huuuuge thanks to Eddie Haddad from Guita...

Day 27: Nailing Timing & Feel - 30 Day Guitar Challenge
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.5 месяцев назад
It’s not just the notes you play, it’s when you play them, and how you play them that makes those notes sing. When working on a difficult part or skill, it can be easy to forget that it’s not just about getting your fingers into the right place to get those notes out. Making sure they fit within the song’s feel and bring out the musical story you’re trying to tell is just as critical. So today,...
Day 26: Mixing Rhythm and Lead Playing - 30 Day Guitar Challenge
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Used to be you were labeled either a Rhythm Guitarist or a Lead Guitarist. I think that we're past that now though, thankfully... Because "Rhythm" and "Lead" playing are not nearly as distinct as that distinction made them sound. In fact, great guitarists are often fluidly mixing these two concepts to create something great. So without further ado, let's talk about how to do it in your own play...

Whether this was your first time with some of the more exotic modes, or just a refresher of some scales you haven't used in a few years, I hope you're feeling more on top of your melodic abilities than ever. Where would we be without the Aeolian mode (AKA the natural minor scale)? In some namby-pamby universe where every song is all sunshine and roses and nothing bad ever happens? Nay, I say. Sometimes it's good to feel dark and moody-and for that, we have the minor scale. Technically there are three minor scales, natural minor, melodic minor and harmonic minor, but we're only going to get into the...

Next up in our modal mini-course-within-a-course, Mixolydian. I would venture to say that if you're only going to remember three modes it should be Ionian, Aeolian, and Mixolydian. Why? Well, it just comes up so stinkin' much in music... So much so that I don't even have to tell you the artists when I count through the hit songs in Mixolydian. This is huge I was thinking about this idea today (you can EQ each string individually and do a lot of amazing things such as cleaning up distortion and preventing tones from overlapping + you could have 18+ channels to work with for a LOT cleaner audio output) Essentially for digital processing this makes for a literal better electric guitar design With the current standard I feel like the output is way too ''hot'' to process digitally but if you can register each pickup individually you can have 18 (or more) seperate channels to work with Which prevents clipping with EQ adjustments Say you want to clip some bass frequencies from your A or D string but you want to leave them on your E string, you can't really do this with just 1 channel but with each pickup registering each string individually you can sort out the frequencies and this helps with amplification because amplification should be the final step So you sort out your bass you get your midtones dialled in (etc) and THEN you throw on the amp / distortion it's gonna be a lot clearer and distinct Also this guitar build sounds great how much does it cost? I think this is the way forward really Should be an industry standard And I think an improvement is getting each individual pickup so you have 18+ channels instead of 6 Tho idk how you've set this up exactly but I think a lot is possible

    I've been playing 12 string guitars for 50 years now. The first time i changed strings (late 70's) i didn't have a tuning winder, and electronic tuners were not quite out yet. All I had was an A440 tuning fork. It took me 5 and a half hours to change and tune up. Now, i can do the whole set in about 15 minutes.

    I've got a bit of dead string/buzz 4th-7th fret area on the g,b & e side, mostly on the e string. Fretless guitar, so it isn't fret related. Secondary to that, my tech wasn't really familiar with setting up a fretless, so what should we be looking for?

    Found your video just by happenstance, worth the watch! Very interesting and informative, thank you. I bought a MIJ 84 strat, actually had it shipped from Japan to the UK (where I was living at the time) after retuning home from a night of drinking, then brought it back with me to Canada when I returned home to retire. Guitar is amazing to play, craftmanship is evident. I also have a 71 US strat, which is also nice, which I bought in the early 80's, also after a night of drinking whilst playing a show at a biker bash. I'm not a collector, I actually like to play, mostly at home these days. My guitar purchases stopped after I quit drinking, but after watching your video, I guess I made good decisions while inebriated! I assure you, I made some poor choiced while pissed too, have a couple of ex wives to prove! Anyway, I do have a question. How do I know if the MIJ is all original, what things can I check (outside the obvious serial number) to see if I have one of these "gems"? Not looking to sell, but more of an interest thing. Fact is, the grandkids will inherit my guitars, I'll play them till I can't, death or arthritis, whichever comes first. I've done some cursory searches, but you seem well informed about these guitars, so any help you could five me would be greatly appreciated. Again, great video, many thanks!

    Im a beginner and I was given a floyd rose guitar as a first guitar and at the beginning it was kinda hard to manage tuning, but after I think about 2-3 hours of tinkering I got it in tune, and it’s very stable once you get it in tune. I have one question, how do I tune a floyd rose to a different tuning, lets say DACGCE? Its hard enough to tune it to standard? Anyone?

    Weren't the Fender Jaguars *all* 32" originally? In any case, there seemed to be a lot of them around in the 80's onward, before disappearing. I'd happily buy a Squire P/J config at 32", whatever shape, if it was light enough... bad back/multiple surgeries mean I either play 30" or Uke-Bass live... or not at all. High end USA P-Bass has remained in case for 10+ years!

    Those Alvarez baritones are all so bad. I love the baritone but I had one like that was shadow burst with an electric pickup inside, always had a buzz that was still there even after I had it setup by a guitar tech. I’d go for Ibanez or a cort baritone if you’re trying to stay under $1000. If you got the money though Taylor are always amazing

    I once had a Yamaha BB405 bass , with bolt-on neck. Had glued the neck solidly to the body, and noticed significant more sustain (and less attack), and the low B string sounded better. It makes difference, is the conclusion.

  • @Klaus80804
    @Klaus80804 16 дней назад

    Another option should be mentioned. Because of my small fingers, I was fixated on the Jazz Bass for a long time, as I could only manage to play the slim neck. That changed when I was in the US and found a Preci with an A-neck (Jazz Bass size neck). They told me that in the 70s this was offered as standard by Fender. These Precis are very rare in Europe, but now with my A-neck Fender Precision I can enjoy the whole world of Precision sounds with the comfort of a Jazz neck. By the way, the early Fender Precisions had a single-coil pickup before the split pickup was introduced. Therefore, the neck pickup sound of the Jazz Bass should be quite similar to these early Precisions.

    Fret buzz doesn't really bother me because amps tend to not pick it up too much but nut or saddle buzz comes through the amp and more importantly it kills the sustain (especially saddle sitar buzz)
